Debra Hunter Johnson founded Reciprocity Consulting Group in 2007.

Using her years of experience as an attorney, human resources vice-president, business founder and community volunteer to offer strategies and actionable tips:

  • to build and grow great cultures;
  • to help businesses scale and grow; and
  • to transition subject matter experts to leaders & trusted advisors

Debra consults, speaks and trains on a wide range of topics including leadership & career development, conflict resolution & negotiations, employee engagement, unconscious bias, harassment, discrimination, 21st century diversity/equity/inclusion and belonging, including supplier diversity, and legal issues related to workplace management.

Her broad mix of skills and experience provide clients with critical perspectives and wisdom that help support their success.

Debra has served in legal and human resources leadership roles in entrepreneurial, large corporate and nonprofit settings. She was Vice President of Global Human Resources Services for American Airlines where she led a team of over 100 human resources professionals covering the U.S., South and Central America, Canada, and Mexico. She also led the company’s diversity and corporate citizenship initiatives and designed a systemwide strategy focused on People, Suppliers, Customers and the Community.

Debra was also an Associate General Counsel in American’s legal department and managed a team of twenty-five legal professionals responsible for the areas of domestic/international employment and benefits issues, employment litigation, environmental, immigration and the company’s Business Ethics Office.  She also created and, for a time, managed the legal department’s Supplier Diversity Program.  Debra also has law firm experience and served as a staff attorney for Chrysler Motors Corporation.

She works with start-up and growth stage businesses to help them scale and serves as a Mentor at the Capital Factory, a start-up accelerator and the largest start-up investor in Texas.

She obtained a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan and J.D. from Howard University School of Law.  She also attended the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship Certificate Program at Southern Methodist University.

Debra has served in pivotal volunteer roles for several nonprofit entities including the Boards of the Texas Women’s Foundation, the UT Southwestern Medical Center and Jack & Jill of America Foundation.

Her community service interests center on economic empowerment initiatives, developing confidence & resilience in young people and access to healthcare for all.
